Self-care is more than just face masks and binge watching your favorite tv shows. 🤔
Notice that the layers get smaller as you move up 💡

1️⃣ The deepest level of self care is facing your own internal programming - what are your beliefs and values? What are you grateful for?

2️⃣ Next is holistic or personal health: physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and intellectual. Do you exercise for physical health? Do you meditate to get in touch with your spirituality? What are you currently learning?

3️⃣ This layer focuses on habits, routines and rituals. What new habit do you want to start, or quit? Do you have a morning and night routine?

4️⃣ Last is products and services. This is the tangible layer. Do you schedule a massage once a month? Connect with friends on social media? Binge watch your favorite show?

Getting glutened is no fun 🙅🏾‍♂️ But it can happen to even those who are the most careful on the gluten-free diet.

Here are 8 things that you can do to help with your recovery process -

💤 REST take it easy and get plenty of sleep. Try to avoid strenuous activities.

🚰 WATER drink plenty of water to flush out all of the toxins from your body.

🛁 TAKE A BATH with Epsom salt to relieve inflammation and pain.

🍎 BLAND DIET revert to eating whole foods that won't upset your stomach such as applesauce, bananas, rice and toast (gluten-free).

🐄. AVOID DAIRY avoid milk and dairy products until you recover. If you've experienced a severe exposure, you may become temporarily lactose intolerant (lactose intolerance is common with celiac disease).

📖. SELF-CARE make time to relax and enjoy the things you love to do.

❌. DON'T TAKE CHANCES skip eating out at restaurants and trying new foods.

🔍. INVESTIGATE try to find out how you got glutened. Review what you ate and what might have been the culprit.

Here are 5/10 myths that we uncover:

❌ tTG antibody blood testing only needs to be performed once and if negative, there is virtually no risk for developing celiac disease.

❌ When genetic results are negative (or low risk) and celiac-like symptoms are present, it is still a good idea to keep eating gluten.

❌ Food sensitivity blood tests are an accurate way to test for celiac disease.

❌ Celiacs need to test everything they eat for “hidden” gluten.

❌ If genetic and antibody test results are positive for celiac disease, there is a pharmacological cure so it is fine to continue eating gluten containing foods.

1️⃣ This day recognizes the birthday (Sep. 13th) of Dr. Samuel Gee, the physician who first published literature on the nature of celiac disease and the need for a diet to treat the disease. 👨‍🔬

2️⃣ Celiac disease and non-celiac gluten sensitivity are not the same thing❗️But they both need to be treated with respect 😌

3️⃣ The ONLY current treatment for celiac disease is a 100% gluten-free diet 🚫 🌾

4️⃣ Educating your family and friends about celiac disease and your diet will help them understand how to support you 🙎‍♀️🙎‍♂️🙍
